Product · Stairworks

Steel stairs, checked as you pick.

Pick where a stair goes and Stairworks lays it out: stringers, treads, landings and holes-only connections, solved and checked against IBC, IRC or OSHA while you pick. Re-measure the rise, rebuild, and every piece goes to the shop as STEP and DXF.

Features

Six stair types, one builder

Pick, solve, build

Click a point on the lower floor, then both ends of the top edge, and the stair is drawn while you pick. A live table shows every riser count with its riser, tread, run and angle. Rows that break the rules are marked, not hidden, and the best fit is starred.

Built to the rules you choose

Commercial (IBC 2021), Residential (IRC 2021), Industrial (OSHA 1910.25), or your shop's own rules copied from any of them. Switch the mode and the stair re-solves. Risers, treads, width, angle, landings, nosings, handrails and guards are checked, and headroom is measured against whatever is drawn over the stair.

Re-measure and rebuild

The floor-to-floor comes in different after the pour? Type the new rise and Rebuild. A stair remembers its sizes, never its position, so you can move, rotate, copy and mirror it like any group and rebuild it where it stands. Hand edits are never lost without a warning.

Steel the shop can cut

Plate stringers slotted for tabbed treads, spliced when they will not fit the cutting table, or channel stringers. Eight tread recipes — bent plate, checker, concrete-fill pans, bar grating, wood or stone on carriers. Landings with posts, and kick plates where Industrial asks for them. Connections are holes only: clip angles, end plates, cap plates, base angles or base plates.

For the shop floor

Every piece, ready to cut.

One export writes STEP for every piece mark, DXF for every plate, and flat patterns for every bent and pan tread with the bend lines on their own layer. The stair sheet prints the data and every check, the packing list, each stringer with its hole schedule, and each tread blank.

Rails go to Railworks: one button hands the stair's nosing line and the rules' heights to Railworks Layout, and Stairworks tells you if the stair moves afterwards.

FAQ

Which codes does it check?

Commercial checks to the 2021 IBC, Residential to the 2021 IRC and Industrial to OSHA 1910.25, each value checked against the published text. A shop can copy any of them into its own rules. Stairworks checks a stair against its rules; it does not certify it — that is for the jurisdiction and the engineer of record.

Does it size the steel?

No. Stairworks lays out and details the stair you choose — stringer plate or channel, treads, landings, connection holes — but it does no structural design, and it does not size welds, bolts or anchors.

Which stairs can it build?

Straight, straight with a landing, L-turn, U-turn, ship ladder and spiral. A flight taller than the rules allow is flagged, and you choose a stair with a landing.

Does it build the railings?

Railworks does. One button hands each run of the stair's nosing line, with the heights the rules ask for, to Railworks Layout (Railworks 1.1 or later). Without Railworks, the rail lines are drawn on their own tag to trace.

How does the trial work?

Fourteen days, fully functional: every stair type and every export, no card required to start.

Does it need the internet?

Once, to activate your license. Building and exporting never call home, so a shop PC behind a firewall works normally.

Which SketchUp versions?

SketchUp Pro 2024 and newer, on Windows. macOS is not supported — the STEP engine is a compiled Windows program, and no Mac build of it ships.

How many seats?

One seat per purchase. Install on two machines if only one is in use at a time. Contact support to transfer a seat.

Refunds?

Within 14 days, if Stairworks will not install or run on a supported SketchUp Pro version after you have followed the install guide, email support and we will refund it.
