Open the files SketchUp cannot read.

Vector PDF drawings arrive as edges and faces at a scale you set, STEP and IGES assemblies keep their parts and colours, and, in beta, a folder of DSTV/NC1 files becomes the steel it describes. Every STEP and PDF import shows you what is coming before it lands.

Features

Three formats, one importer

Vector PDF, as edges and faces

Lines arrive as edges, and wherever they close SketchUp makes faces you can Push/Pull. PDF layers become tags, text comes in as labels, and rectangular clipping is honoured, so a viewport imports only what it shows.

Set the scale, or measure it

Pick a scale from the list — 1/4 in = 1 ft, 1:50 and the rest — or click the two ends of a dimension you can read off the sheet and type its length.

STEP and IGES, structure intact

AP203, AP214 and AP242 STEP, and IGES, with the assembly tree, part names and colours kept. Choose Coarse, Medium or Fine quality, the up axis and the scale before it is built. The file comes in as written: there is no healing, so a dirty file imports dirty.

A folder of DSTV, side by side (beta)

Each NC1 file is rebuilt as solid steel with its cuts and holes, named by its piece mark. Import one from File > Import, or a whole folder from Extensions > ImportTools, laid out side by side in one Undo step. DSTV import is in beta.

Preview first

See it before it is built.

STEP and PDF files are read first. The preview shows how many parts, faces and edges are coming, what units the file is in, how big it will be and what could not be read — before any geometry exists.

An import never stops on one entity it cannot read. It brings in everything else and tells you, once, what it left out and why. Every import is a single Undo step.

FAQ

What does it import?

Vector PDF, STEP (AP203, AP214 and AP242), IGES, and DSTV/NC1 steel files, which are in beta. Not IFC, DWG or DXF — SketchUp Pro already imports those.

Will it read a scanned drawing?

No. A scan or a photo-PDF has no lines in it to read. ImportTools reads the drawing’s own vectors, and when there are none it imports nothing and says so.

Do curves come in as arcs?

Not in 1.0. PDF curves arrive as short straight segments, and STEP curved surfaces arrive as facets at the quality you choose, because SketchUp has only flat faces.

How does the trial work?

Fourteen days, fully functional: every importer, no card required to start.

Does it need the internet?

Once, to activate your license. Importing never calls home, so a shop PC behind a firewall imports normally.

Which SketchUp versions?

SketchUp Pro 2024 and newer, on Windows. macOS is not supported — the PDF and STEP engine is a compiled Windows program, and no Mac build of it ships.

How many seats?

One seat per purchase. Install on two machines if only one is in use at a time. Contact support to transfer a seat.

Refunds?

Within 14 days, if ImportTools will not install or run on a supported SketchUp Pro version after you have followed the install guide, email support and we will refund it.
