Get started with ImportTools

Updated September 24, 2026

ImportTools reads three kinds of file SketchUp cannot: vector PDF, STEP/IGES and DSTV/NC1, which is in beta. It needs SketchUp Pro 2024 or newer on 64-bit Windows 10 or 11. It does not run on a Mac.

Install and activate

  1. Install ImportTools from the Extension Warehouse: in SketchUp, Extensions → Extension Warehouse, then search for ImportTools. Restart SketchUp when it asks.
  2. Open Extensions → ImportTools → License… and press Add License….
  3. Enter the email address you bought or started the trial with, and the key from your order email, then press Activate License.

Import a file

  1. Use Extensions → ImportTools → Import… or File → Import and pick a PDF, STEP or IGES file.
  2. For STEP, IGES and PDF, a preview shows the parts, faces, edges, units and size before anything is built. Set the options there and press Import.
  3. For NC1 files (DSTV, in beta), use Extensions → ImportTools → Import DSTV Folder (Beta)… and pick the folder. The parts are laid out side by side in one Undo step. A single NC1 file also comes in through File → Import.

Setting a PDF’s scale has its own article: Set the scale of a PDF import.

When to contact support

Include your SketchUp version, your Windows version and the ImportTools version shown in Extension Manager. For an import problem, the file itself helps more than anything else you can send.
